- Trim the Wick: Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (0.64 cm). This helps prevent excessive flickering, smoking and ensures a clean burn.
- Place on a Stable Surface: Always place your candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Avoid placing them near flammable materials or in drafty areas that can cause uneven burning.
- Keep Away from Children and Pets: Place candles out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the room.
- Burn in a Well-Ventilated Area: Ensure that the room is well-ventilated when burning candles. This helps prevent the accumulation of excessive smoke and ensures a healthier environment.
- Use Appropriate Holders: Place candles in suitable holders that are designed to catch any dripping wax and provide stability. Avoid using containers that may crack or break due to heat.
- Avoid Overburning: Limit the burn time of your candles. Avoid burning them for more than four hours at a time. Extinguish the candle and allow it to cool before relighting.
- Do Not Move While Burning: Never move a burning candle. Extinguish it first, let it cool, and then relocate it if necessary. Hot wax can cause burns or spills if the candle is moved while lit.
- Check for Drafts: Avoid placing candles in drafty areas as this can lead to uneven burning, excessive smoking, and an increased risk of accidents. Drafts may also cause the flame to flicker excessively.
- Keep Candles Apart: Place candles at least three inches apart from each other. Burning multiple candles close together can create excessive heat and pose a fire hazard.
- Extinguish Properly: Use a snuffer or gently blow on the flame to extinguish the candle. Avoid using water to put out the flame, as this can cause hot wax to splatter.
- Store Candles Safely: When not in use, store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This helps maintain their quality and prevents potential damage.
- Be Mindful of Allergens: If you or someone in your household has allergies, be mindful of the fragrance ingredients in the candles. Opt for unscented candles if needed.
