What You’ll Need to Clean a Soy Wax Candle Jar
Most of these items are already in your home:
- Hot (not boiling) water
- Dish soap
- Paper towels or a soft cloth
- Butter knife or spoon
- Baking soda (optional)
- Rubbing alcohol or white vinegar (optional)
Step-by-Step: How to Clean a Soy Wax Candle Jar
Step 1: Remove Any Remaining Wax
Hot Water Method (Alena’s Recommended)
Place your candle jar in a sink or heat-safe bowl. Carefully pour hot water into the jar, leaving a little space at the top. The remaining soy wax will melt, rise to the surface, and solidify as the water cools. Once hardened, lift the wax disk out and discard it in the trash.
⚠️ Never pour wax down the drain.
Freezer Method (Optional Alternative)
Place the candle jar in the freezer for 2–3 hours. Once frozen, the wax will shrink and easily pop out with a spoon or butter knife.
Step 2: Remove the Wick & Wick Sticker
Once the wax is gone, gently pry up the metal wick tab using a spoon or butter knife. If the adhesive is stubborn, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol or white vinegar to loosen it.
Step 3: Wash the Jar
Wash the jar with warm water and dish soap to remove any remaining oils. Use a soft cloth or sponge to protect the glass.
For lingering scent, sprinkle a little baking soda inside the jar and gently scrub — this helps neutralize fragrance naturally.
Step 4: Dry & Inspect
Dry the jar completely with a clean towel and allow it to air-dry. Inspect the jar to ensure it’s free of wax, residue, and moisture before reuse.
